I know I had promised to blog about the twelve-day trip on the road, and I did mean it when I had said it. However, life, or rather, work sometimes change right in from of your very eyes. It was an intense trip. I had to split up 3,750 miles between 12 days, while leaving enough time for daylight shots and late night shots. The schedule was precise and methodical. I know what you’re thinking, of coarse things went wrong.
For those who didn’t read the previous blog post, I rented an RV to get multiple shots of various famous US landmarks and cities for a television commercial.
Day one started out very slowly. The parts for my time-lapse dolly came right on time… but a power supply did not. After spending some time on the phone with the very helpful people at www.servocity.com I was able to get my machine together… mostly. After a lovely, I-lost-the-keys-to-the-RV-and-put-them-in-the-weirdest-place-imaginable incident, we were off.
(Below: a picture of the time-lapse dolly that I made)
(Below: the thirty-foot RV that we so pseudo-lovingly named “The Millennium Falcon”)
Why did we regret naming the RV the Millennium Flacon? Oh, only because it broke down three times. Yeah that’s right. Three times. Just like the hyperdrive on the Falcon. But not before getting us to the beautiful Grand Canyon.

So after a completely new starter and $850 later, we were off. Luckily the RV rental place paid for the fix.
The rest of the trip went fantastically. The shots for the commercial turned out AWESOME. I can’t wait to get it finished and online for all to see. I so want to show all the pictures from each of the shots, but I have to save them. You will have to wait for the commercial. That might not be till next month, as the spot needs to be put together and the client needs to see it and approve it first. We’ll keep you posted.

(Below: the stars at Zion’s National Park. Can you believe all those stars? You might just need to download the image and look, depending on what browser you are looking at this with)
(Below: the dolly in action. Moving very slow)

(Below: Park City nightlife. I almost didn’t catch this shot, as I left my batteries in the car and had to hike back to the car and get them before it got too dark)

the preview pix look awesome. Can’t wait to see the spot.
